Fairland Hosts Successful 19th Annual Baltimore Washington Invitational

 

The Fairland Boys’ Gymnastics Team hosted another successful Baltimore Washington Invitational meet on December 14th and 15th, 2013 at the Fairland Sports Complex in Laurel, Maryland. The 19th annual USAG competitve gymnastics meet was attended by 24 teams from 5 states, with over 350 gymnasts competing. The meet ran smoothly owing to the tremendous support by Fairland families, judges, and coaches from all teams. The Fairland Boys Gymnastics Team had 62 top 5 individual event finishes in the meet, with 14 gymnasts of all levels taking 1st place in their event. In the all-around competition, Fairland had two all-around champions in Level 4, Jason Singleton (Division  8) and Aaron Ayodele (Division 9). Four Fairland gymnasts took 2nd place in the all around: Donovan Hall (Level 4, Div 6), Samuel Devoye (level 5, Div 9), Damien Chu (Level 5, Div 10), and Giovanni Rossoni (Level 10, Div 15-16). In the team competition, the Fairland Level 4 boys brought home the 1st place trophy. Farland’s dedicated coaches supported the gymnasts throughout the competition and they did an amazing job of guiding the boys through all their events. the judges was truly superb: in addition to spending long hours judging the events, each judge took the time to provide feedback to gymnasts and their coaches on how the gymnasts could improve.The judges were friendly and professional, and Fairland sincerely appreciated their efforts on behalf of the sport and the athletes. Fairland coaches, parents, and staff all worked tirelessly to make the BWI a success. Congratulations to all the althletes who participated, and we look forward to seeing you at another great BWI meet in 2014!

Mock Meet 2014

 

The Fairland Boys Gymnastics Team levels 4-7 held their first mock meet of the season on Sep 14th. Gymnasts practiced and performed their routines under the guidance of their coaches, and new level 4 competitive gymnasts got the feel of the meet process, with judging by Fairland's own Dave Quattlebaum. Everyone is looking forward to the real deal once the competitive season starts!

On Saturday, November 15th, 2014, the Fairland Boys Gymnastics Team, Levels 5-10, competed in the Survivor Invitational Meet hosted by Apollo Gymnastics, Woodbridge, Virginia. Both Optional and Compulsory Teams had an excellent first meet of the competitive season, resulting in Fairland gymnasts receiving multiple individual awards in each event and the all-around, and with Fairland Level 5-9 teams all placing in the top 3.

 

Level 10 Gymnast, Uche Eke, a high school senior, placed 1st on vault, 2nd on Pommel, 3rd on Rings, 3rd on PBars, resulting in a 2nd place All-Around award. Watching Uche perform is so exciting as he makes his presence known due to his high level gymnastics skills.  Level 9 Gymnast Brian Trinh competed well as the team's only level 9 competing gymnasts for this meet.  Brian received 1st place on PBars, 2nd place on Vault, 3rd Place on Pommel, resulting in 3rd Place All-Around for the Level 9 age 13 and up age category.  Our Level 8 gymnasts, all in the same age category, remained on the awards platform during the entire awards ceremony.  For the Pommel event Fairland's Level 8s dominated the awards by 

placing 1st (Joshua Henry-Price), 2nd (Brandon Singleton), and 3rd (Donovan Hewitt) for this event.  Level 8 gymnast Brandon Singleton was also awarded 3rd Place on Floor and 3rd place on High Bar.  In addition to Level 8 gymnast Joshua Henry-Price's 1st place on Pommel award, he also received 1st place on Hbar, 3rd place on Rings, and 3rd place on Vault. Joshua received a 3rd place All-Around award for his accomplishments.  Donovan Hewitt, Level 8 Gymnast, was all smiles when in addition to his 3rd place award on Pommel, he was awarded 1st place on Floor, 1st Place on Rings, 1st place on Vault, 2nd Place on PBars, resulting in a tied score for 1st place All-around. Fairland Level 7 team had a 2nd place finish overall, with good individual finishes by numerous gymnasts. Maliel Henry (Div 12/13) finished 5th in Vault, and Daniel Trinh had a 3rd place finish on Pommel. Julian Galvez (Div 9-11) finished with 1st place in Pommel, 2nd in Floor, and 3rd place in Rings, PBars, and the All-Around. Eric Tran (Div 9-11) finished 4th in Hbar and All-Around, while Sam Devroye, Michael Venit, and Kenneth Graninger all had top 10 finishes in the All-Around competition.

 

The Fairland Compulsory Team also had a great showing at the Apollo Survival Invitational with the Levels 5 and 6 teams placing 2nd and 3rd, respectively. The level 5 boys, lead by Damon Nguyen claimed a total 13 top 3 medals, along with numerous others: four (4) 1st place; five (5) 2nd place and four (4) 3rd place medals including a 1st-AA (Damon) and 3rd –AA (Zachary Rollins). The medal break down is as follows: Damon Nguyen (Div.9) - 2nd FX, 2nd PH, 1st SR, 1st PB, 1st HB, 1st AA; Zachary Rollins (Div.10) – 2nd FX, 2nd PH, 3rd VT,  2nd PB, 3rd AA; Donovan Hall (Div. 7/8) – 3rd PH; Thanh-Trieu (Div. 7/8) – 3rd VT. Level 6 lead by Damien Chu took home a total of 10 medals: two (2) 1st place; five (5) 2nd place and three (3) 3rd place.  Quinlan Ngo won the Level 6 highest single event score trophy with his exceptional 11.6 Pommel Horse routine. The medal breakdown is as follows: Damien Chu (Div. 11) – 3rd F, 1st PB, 3rd HB, 2nd AA; Quinlan Ngo (Div.10) – 1st PH, 2nd VT, 2nd PB; Ibraheem Spurlock (Div.10) – 3rd VT; Jason 

Singleton (Div.9) – 2nd VT, 2nd HB.

 

The boys had a great start to the 2014-2015 gymnastics season. All gymnasts are ready for their next meets, with the Compulsory Team headed to USAG MD Designated Qualifier meet #1 and all teams eagerly awaiting Fairland’s 20th Annual Baltimore Washington Invitational on Dec 13-14th.
