The Fairland Boys Gymnastics Team offers two levels of boys developmental gymnastics. Entry into this program is based on an assessment and/or recommendation from our team coaches. This program is geared for younger boys who have a desire to eventually move into our competitive program. The initial level of developmental gymnastics is the Hot Shots class, and the second level is the Developmental Team (D-Team). Both Hot Shots and D-Team demonstrate their skills and accomplishments each May during Fairland's annual Spring Fling Demonstration.

Hot Shots is a one-hour class that meets once a week, with registration during the recreational class sessions by permission only. Boys selected for Hot Shots are typically 3-5 years of age. Hot Shots focuses on strength, flexibility, and skill development to prepare the boys for progression into the Developmental Team, while retaining the fun needed to encourage and motivate the boys.

D-Team is the first level in the team program, and boys practice twice a week for 2 hours each. There is no competition at this level, and membership in USAG is not yet required. Boys in D-Team are typically 5-7 years old, and older boys identified from the recreational program may enter directly into D-Team. At the end of each season, the coaches will provide parents with a formal evaluation of their child and recommend the level to train starting in the summer. The attributes assessed by the coaches include skill acquisition, strength, flexibility, handling fear, respect toward peers and coaches, ability to follow directions, attitude, and output in practice. At the end of the summer, another informal assessment will be done and a final decision on the level for the competitive season will be made.
