Levels 4-6: Each gymnast performs a compulsory routine, i.e. the same skills in a stated routine. Bonus (extra points) may be given for exceptional performance of a skill that enhances their routine. A description of the age group competition program, judging information, and overviews of all the current routines on each event can be found in the current version of the USA Gymnastics Men’s Junior Olympic Age Group Competition Program publication.

Level 4 is the second level in the USA Gymnastics program, and the first level at which gymnasts perform and compete with evaluation criteria. Level 4 gymnasts perform compulsory routines dictated by USA Gymnastics. The level is tailored to introduce competitive gymnastics in specified age groups (6, 7-8, 9-10, 11+ years). Gymnasts compete in Local Qualifiers and Invitational competitions around the state of Maryland, and have the opportunity to compete at the State Championships. Level 5 is the intermediate level of competitive compulsory gymnastics within the USA Gymnastics competitive program. The level is geared toward boys in specified age groups (7-8, 9-10, 11+ years) who have met the development goals of level 4 and are ready to compete at the next level. Gymnasts compete in Local Qualifiers and Invitational competitions around the state of Maryland, and have the opportunity to compete, based on qualifying scores, at the State and Regional Championships. Level 6 Is the advanced level of compulsory gymnastics in the USA Gymnastics competitive program. This level is geared toward boys (7-8, 9-10, 11+ years), who have met the developmental goals of level 5 and are ready to compete at the next level. At this higher level of compulsory competition, the gymnasts have a larger repertoire, background of experience, and a higher level of fitness. Therefore, a greater number of opportunities for specified performance bonus are offered and are accessible, which also helps to prepare the gymnast for the transition to optional competition. Gymnasts compete in Local Qualifiers and Invitational competitions around the state of Maryland, and have the opportunity to compete, based on qualifying scores, at the State and Regional Championships.
